Hughes, Charles Howard

Suddenly, as a result of an accident, on Monday, September 17, 2018. Charles Hughes, age 78, of Wilberforce, was the beloved husband of Evonne (Hiscox) Hughes.  Loved father of Wesley, Jonathan (Rebekah), David (Rachel), Timothy (Narda), Nathan (Kari-Lynn) and Mark (Rache).  Loving grandfather of Larissa, Josiah, Lael, Noah, Micah, Maria, Judah, Kiera, William, Aurora, Serena, Miriam, Arianna, Joshua, Elora, Elia, and Michaela.  Brother of Janice Vardy, Hazel Robinson (Royden), Ron Hughes (Debbie) and Barry Hughes (Paula).  Son-in-law of Roy Hiscox, and brother-in-law of Sharon Vanhoffen (Richard), Paul Hiscox (Adeline) and Barb Hiscox.  Predeceased by his brothers-in-law Elwood Vardy and Carl Hiscox.  Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and many many friends.   Charles was a man of integrity, totally committed to his faith in Jesus Christ.  Charles was a founding Elder of the Harcourt Community Chapel, and had a Pastoral role for 57 years.  In 1961, Charles began his teaching career with the Haliburton County School Board, and taught elementary school for 35 years.  He was a principal & teacher for 22 years.  On the Monday morning of September 17, 2018, Charles left behind a broken body for a perfected one. A giant of a man, with a character to match. We’ll miss him deeply.  Those wishing to pay their final respects to Charles, may do so on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:30  – 10:30 a.m. at the Harcourt Community Chapel (1054 Harcourt Road, Harcourt).  A Funeral Service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Don Waterhouse officiating.  Charles’ family will receive relatives and friends at the Harcourt Community Centre (Midway Street, Harcourt), following the burial at South Wilberforce Cemetery, Wilberforce.  As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, The Boys JIM Club of America, and Graphite Bible Camp in memory of Charles, would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements entrusted to M.G.
