Irving, Florence Gladys

Passed away peacefully June 28, 2018 after a brief illness at Quinte Health Care North Hastings Hospital, Bancroft , Ontario at the age of 96.  She was the loving wife of the late John Gordon Irving, Royal Canadian Artillery 1940 – 1945  .It was at the Beaver Club, Canadian Embassy, London, England where she met the love of her life. They were to be married in 1943, however my father John’s leave was cancelled for the invasion of Sicily and Italy. They were married on April 24, 1945 after his return from Germany. She was predeceased by her parents Albert Arthur Ellis (veteran of WWI) and her mother Ethel Mary Kate, her brother Albert Charles Martin Ellis, British Admiralty, Royal Navy; and her youngest daughter Kathleen Ann Shelley, and her grandson Jason Shelley.  Mom was a very private person but spoke her mind whenever called upon. She also possessed the wit and humour for which the British are well known.  She was also a pioneering woman when she came to Canada on the Aquitania (a four funnel Cunard Lines passenger ship) disembarking at Halifax, Nova Scotia for the train trip via the CNR to Allanwater, Ontario where dad worked as a lumberjack. Lovingly remembered by her son Keith Gordon Irving of Bancroft, Ontario, grandson Sean Sloan, granddaughter Ashley Ann Marie Walker of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and by her daughter Jacqueline Carol Villamere of the Shushwap in BC, and her children Terry, Gregory, and Christine of Galt,Cambridge, Ontario. A Memorial at St John’s Anglican will be held and a private ceremony presided over by Reverend Jonathan Kouris during the committal of her remains alongside her husband and daughter. Good Bye Mom.  Dad has waited 28 years to see you again. Until we all meet again in Heaven. With love from your son, Keith.
